Amazon to fund a 960 MW nuclear plant of 12 small reactors in Indiana for its data centers

To power SI data centers, tech giants are now investing in their own nuclear plants.
The plant of 12 X-energy Xe-100 reactors will be built on the site of a demolished coal plant south of Terre Haute; the operator is American Electric Power. Amazon will support development with funding and a long-term power purchase agreement. This is Amazon's second commercial agreement with X-energy, three times larger than the first; the parties' goal is 5 GW of new nuclear capacity in the US by 2039. The plant will be connected to the public grid and supply Amazon's data centers. The timeline depends on completion of X-energy's project in Seadrift, Texas, for which the company is awaiting final regulatory permission to build.
