There is no decision yet: the commission does not plan to change the rules on SI-voiced calls, and politicians argue about the risk of deceiving voters.
Senator Chuck Schumer demanded that the Federal Communications Commission reject a petition from the group Club for Growth, filed on August 31; the public comment period ran from September 4 to October 19. Schumer warned that campaigns could use opponents' voices for messages that are "at best, disingenuous and, at worst, a blatant lie." An FCC spokesperson told Al Jazeera that no one at the commission is interested in moving to an order on this or other petitions and there are no plans to do so. Club for Growth's position was not found in the sources checked.
