Paradromics and Siemens Healthineers to build a medical imaging system for brain-computer interface implantation

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

Brain-computer interfaces are being fitted into ordinary clinics step by step: implantation will be planned and checked on standard scanners.

The companies announced a collaboration on a platform meant to cover the whole implantation path: patient selection, finding the target brain area, planning and navigation during surgery, localization after implantation, and assessment of results. The workflow will combine structural and functional MRI, vascular imaging and CT, and is expected to be deployed in clinics on Siemens Healthineers equipment. Speech and motor functions come first, hand movement and restoration of speech after stroke later. Paradromics CEO Matt Angle: "A brain-computer interface's performance begins before the implant ever reaches the brain."
