Nvidia reports a record simulation of a 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum processor

Quantum processors can be tested on a supercomputer before they are built, but the record has so far been claimed only by Nvidia.

According to Nvidia, its researchers and the Jülich Supercomputing Centre simulated a 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum processor on Europe's exascale supercomputer JUPITER (GH200 chips); Nvidia itself calls it the largest full simulation of such a processor. They modeled "magic state cultivation", an approach that, the company says, cuts the number of physical qubits needed by 90% compared with earlier methods. Development was done on a GB200 NVL72 system.
