People want to run large models right on the phone, but for now that is a wish, not a finished product.

On Alex Heath's "Sources" podcast, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said leading SI companies want a smartphone to run, continuously, a model of at least a hundred billion parameters by 2028; he did not name which companies. Local processing is needed because personal context, sensor data and apps are not accessible to cloud agents. Amon also said memory prices have risen 5-6 times and that the smartphone market will shrink 20% in 2026.
