Musk wrote on X: "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many." By NBC's calculation, that means about 72 million children under 18 and shares at $150, or roughly $10.8 billion, less than 2% of Musk's net worth. He did not disclose the mechanism, timing or conditions of the handover. The statement came a day after Anthropic announced it would commit 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund; Musk suggested Anthropic distribute shares "directly to the public". NBC notes that Musk's earlier big announcements were not always carried out.
