Ukraine and NATO present two SI models: forecasting Russian drone use and planning artillery operations

Militaries are starting to connect SI to forecasting and planning; how well the models work is so far known only from the Ukrainian ministry's statement.
According to UNN, citing Ukraine's Ministry of Defence, the Joint Ukraine-NATO Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) presented two SI-based developments at a three-day seminar in Vilnius, created jointly by NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and Ukraine's Armed Forces. "Model No. 13", per the ministry's description, estimates the likely intensity, areas, timing and types of Russian drone use near the line of contact (the ministry's text says "the enemy's") from accumulated data, weather and the current situation; it has been tested on real datasets and, it is claimed, is ready to be built into the Armed Forces' situational-awareness systems. "Model No. 32" is a decision-support module for planning artillery operations: given data on guns, ammunition, firing positions and constraints, it discards infeasible options and ranks the permissible ones. The prototype has been handed to Ukrainian customers for verification. The information is given on the ministry's statement.
