Anthropic is building capacity in Canada and taking on the cost of the power grid in advance.
According to The Logic, Anthropic has signed a 20-year lease with EverWind for a site at Point Tupper (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia) - the company's first data centre in Canada. The first phase of 95 MW is due to start operating in late 2027, with the full campus of up to 420 MW by 2028; total investment is estimated at about 10 billion (8 billion for the site, 2 billion for wind projects). Anthropic said it will pay for the grid upgrades needed for the connection, protect other consumers from rising tariffs and put tens of millions of dollars into local projects.
