A protest against replacing couriers with robots has for the first time drawn police intervention.

According to PhillyVoice, Carolyn Marvin, 78, professor emerita at the University of Pennsylvania, was detained on Wednesday for disorderly conduct after standing in the path of an Uber Eats robot in central Philadelphia. In her words, she had been doing this for months to protest corporations that displace human delivery workers for profit; the robots reached the city's streets in March. Officers, by her account, asked her to step aside and she repeatedly refused; the detention was the first time police got involved. Marvin considers her actions a lawful protest. Uber Eats's position was not found in the text checked.
