Sergey Brin: Gemini models already help create their own next versions, Google is entering SI self-improvement

Labs increasingly build new models with the models' own hands; how much this speeds up progress is so far known only from the companies' words.
In a roundtable discussion about the creation of the new Gemini 4 Argon model, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, according to Business Insider (in the AOL version), said development inside the company is accelerating and models are helping build their successors; researchers and the model, in his words, work together on the next version. Google's safety report on Argon says a "majority" of code is written by SI agents, with humans reviewing the code before it is added to the project. The outlet links Brin's words to a Gladstone AI report, according to which researchers at leading labs expect recursive self-improvement to begin within 3–12 months.
