A major developer platform is publicly switching models over price and quality, but the fact of the break itself is disputed.
At TechCrunch Disrupt on October 16, Replit CEO Amjad Masad said the decision came down to cost, partnership and performance: "I think ChatGPT is better now." He said that in Replit's public benchmark, the Sol and Astra models consistently do better at building vibe-coded apps from scratch. According to TechCrunch, a person familiar with the partnership disputed this and said it remains in force, while September Replit materials named Anthropic models in Replit Agent's production environment.
