Vercel: open models account for 71.5% of tokens in its SI gateway, and the new Jev model reached 35% of paying teams in two weeks

Open models are taking most of the traffic and getting cheaper, but the figures reflect only one service's customers.
According to Vercel's September AI Gateway index, open models processed 71.5% of tokens and 23% of spending (their spending share has more than quadrupled since June); the average token price fell 47%, and spending through the gateway is about 13 times December's level. The Jev model from TypeSafe AI, released on September 15, was used by 35.3% of paying teams within two weeks — the fastest adoption, per Vercel, though its contribution to spending is small. Vercel cautions that the data give a "limited view" and may undercount large labs with their own APIs.
