IBM releases Granite Switch 4.1: one model chats, makes decisions and transcribes speech

Several skills — dialogue, decisions and speech recognition — are packed into one model that needs about as much video memory as an ordinary one; the figures so far come from IBM itself.

According to IBM's blog on Hugging Face, the Granite-Switch-4.1 models with 8 and 30 billion parameters combine a base model with a "decision" adapter, a Guardian adapter for safety assessment and a built-in Granite-Speech-5.0-Turbo-CTC speech recognition model; all of this takes about as much video memory as the base model alone. IBM says Guardian on average outperforms a number of listed models on safety-related tasks and that the speech recognition is the fastest on the OpenASR leaderboard. The comparisons are IBM's own data.
