Researchers now have a humanoid robot with an open design and software: they can study and change it rather than work through a closed interface.

According to The AI Insider, RoboParty has released RP1, a humanoid robot with open hardware and software for embodied-SI research. The standard version, about 1.3 m tall, has 24 actuated degrees of freedom and the Pro version 30, including a two-degree-of-freedom neck and two seven-degree-of-freedom arms; the platform includes ROMOMO joint actuators, drivers, control algorithms, firmware, simulation and learning tools, as well as VR teleoperation and motion capture. The code is available on GitHub. Founder Yi Huang said the future of embodied SI should not be defined by a handful of closed systems. The data come from the company through a single outlet.
