The SI assistant now works right in the user's browser and sees everything that is open; convenience grows along with the question of whom to trust with access to tabs.

According to The Verge, OpenAI has updated the ChatGPT extension for Google Chrome: if you tag Chrome in the ChatGPT web or desktop app, it can read open tabs, for example to compare products or contractors and draft an email. The sidebar gets the "full power" of ChatGPT and conversation history; ChatGPT Work mode, OpenAI says, can "control" tabs, sending messages, filling out forms and downloading files, and also group tabs. The Verge notes that the ChatGPT Atlas browser is gone and that Google's Gemini has a similar "auto browse" feature. The only source is The Verge, relaying OpenAI's statement.
