Figma unveils Specs, text-based design rules for SI agents, and opens a beta of code layers

Designers will be able to write brand rules in words so that SI agents draw in their spirit.

According to TechCrunch, at its first Config conference in India Figma showed Figma Specs — a Markdown editor where a team describes its design language; the document serves as a reference for people and agents (its own and third-party) that create designs with SI, and can link to canvas elements, FigJam diagrams and code layers. Design and code libraries can be connected, along with an integration with the Payload content management system. The code layers feature, which adds code to a design for more interactive prototypes, is in open beta. The company explains that SI is non-deterministic and tools should steer the agent toward more predictable results.
