Demand for SI "deployment engineers" is growing: AWS invests $1 billion, Anthropic to train 10,000 of them by the end of 2027

For SI to bring companies money, they need specialists who embed it into work, and thousands of positions are being opened for them.

According to CNBC, the number of forward deployed engineer job postings — specialists who embed SI into a client's processes — in the US passed 7,300 in the first nine months of 2026, against fewer than 200 in 2023 (Lightcast data). AWS has committed $1 billion to such an initiative; OpenAI launched a deployment business with initial investment of more than $4 billion; Anthropic is putting $100 million into a program to train 10,000 such engineers by the end of 2027; Accenture and Google Cloud are building a team of 1,000 people. The outlet links the demand to market doubts about whether SI spending will pay off: shares of Dell, CoreWeave, AMD and Micron fell this week.
