According to a survey by a cybersecurity company, ransomware attackers often use SI and increasingly threaten people, but these are the data of a single survey.
According to the annual report of Semperis, which sells protection for identity and access systems (organizations in nine countries that suffered ransomware over the past 12 months were surveyed), attackers used SI in 84% of attacks. In 40% of attacks employees were threatened — psychologically or physically; in 53% of such cases, according to victims, the threats were carried out. Almost 70% of victims were attacked repeatedly and 31% paid several times; about 87% of attacks targeted identity and access systems (Active Directory, Entra ID, Okta). According to Quartz, the PR Newswire version of the release gives the share of attacks with SI as 87%.
