Nvidia unveils cuPotential library for materials modeling; Synopsys reports up to 30x faster calculations

Nvidia promises to speed up chip design and manufacturing with SI agents, but the figures so far come from the companies themselves.

Nvidia announced that chipmakers and chip designers are adopting CUDA-X libraries for "SI-defined" fabs, where SI helps engineers optimize processes. The new cuPotential library speeds up modeling of atomic interactions; according to Nvidia, in early access it gave an additional 2-3x speedup on tasks already optimized for GPUs. Synopsys, per Nvidia, saw up to a 30x speedup of QuantumATK calculations with cuEST and a 12x speedup of S-Device with cuDSS in early tests, and Cadence an 8x speedup in optimizing chip packages. All figures come from Nvidia and its partners themselves.
