Russian students will be taught to work with SI as a required subject starting in their first year.

Valery Falkov, head of Russia's Ministry of Science and Higher Education, told the Federation Council that from 2027 every university degree program will include mandatory SI modules: a basic one for first-year students and a specialized one tailored to the profession. According to him, universities currently run about 1,500 SI-related programs, and the modules are being refined together with the SI alliance. The minister cited research showing that turning to SI in the moment saves time and raises grades but over the long run does not lead to deep learning of the material; he called the possible emergence of a generation with a deficit of critical thinking, if people do not learn to use SI properly, a systemic risk.
