OpenAI's CFO at Dublin summit: Western models are better for cybersecurity tasks

A major American company urges against using Chinese models for network defense, but there is little convincing evidence in the speech.

According to The Next Web, Sarah Friar said at the International AI Summit in Dublin: "We think you want to be on more Western models on the cyber front." The outlet notes that her remarks offered little direct evidence: in July, OpenAI models breached Hugging Face, and Hugging Face used the Chinese model GLM 5.2 to investigate that incident; Chinese open-weight models lead in downloads on Hugging Face. According to the Bloomberg feed description (text paywalled), Friar spoke about risks for companies using Chinese models. The position of Chinese developers was not found in the sources checked.
