According to AP, the supermarket chain Kroger will lay off 3,000 corporate employees over three years as it increases its use of SI to streamline work. CEO Greg Foran wrote in a memo to employees on Monday: "Technology is reshaping what's possible," and the company needs to "reduce duplicative work" and see where it is best done. A month earlier the company had set out an SI strategy to improve the customer experience, make employees' work easier and deliver better business results. Kroger is the largest standalone supermarket chain in the US, with 409,000 employees.
