Chinese mathematicians led by Yau unite eight institutions in an alliance for SI in mathematics, targeting more than 1,000 researchers

Chinese mathematicians are building a large network so that SI helps prove theorems, while in the West people debate whether it gets in the way of understanding.
The Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence brings together eight institutions; its aim is to bring SI into mathematical research and to create specialised models, machine-verifiable proofs and transparent SI reasoning. It is led by Fields Medal winner Shing-Tung Yau. According to The Decoder, 25 Fields Medal winners, including Terence Tao and Peter Scholze, have voiced concern that proofs produced by SI undermine understanding of mathematics and make researchers dependent on tools they cannot follow.
