US Army to pick two contractors for Project Griffin: SI agents will respond to network attacks within set limits

The Army is preparing to trust SI not only to spot an intrusion in a network but to respond to it itself, for now within strict limits.
The Army's principal cyber advisor Brandon Pugh said contracts with two companies are planned by the end of the week. The existing Panoptic Junction tool finds malicious network activity almost 90% of the time but does not remediate it; Griffin is meant to add an autonomous response "within prescribed parameters". Lt. Gen. Christopher Eubank, commander of Army Cyber Command, cautioned that the service first has to determine whether personnel are ready to "let the agent actually take action". The competition drew 108 submissions and 10 finalists.
