State authorities asked residents what they want from SI and heard a call for accountability and rules.
Governor Gavin Newsom presented the results of Engaged California, a digital platform for gathering residents' views. The main requests: hold SI companies accountable for harm, protect people and the environment from the resource demands of SI, and introduce safety rules for deployment. The recommendations will inform state policy, which already includes laws on worker protection, frontier SI safety, children and deepfakes.
