SI specialists from science are moving into sport, where models are needed for calculations and decisions.

Lee, who announced his departure after 16 years at Microsoft, where he developed applications of SI in the physical, biological and medical sciences, told Fortune that in his new role he will take on four tasks: applying SI to physics problems of the car, removing organisational and data barriers between departments, building financial and predictive models, and advising on how the sport's regulators might regulate SI. The job title is still being discussed; a one-year contract with an option to extend for a second is expected; Mercedes did not immediately respond to a request.
