Demand for programmers hasn't disappeared but has shifted toward experienced people and those who work with SI — the way in has become narrower for beginners.
According to CNBC, US software development job postings have been rising since February 2025, the month Claude Code launched, while overall postings fell; the growth is concentrated in senior and SI-related roles, while entry-level hiring is weakening. GitHub reported that in October one in three pull requests involves an SI agent, versus fewer than one in ten a year earlier; GitHub allows that if the pace holds, most code will be written by agents within two years.
