Sen. Gallego proposes a "robot tax" and a 10% excise tax on data-center revenue in a plan to protect workers from SI

Politicians are starting to propose taxes on robots and data centers to pay for protecting workers from SI, but so far it is only a proposal, not law.
According to Semafor, Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego unveiled a labor-market program for the SI era: a 10% excise tax on data-center revenue with the removal of their tax incentives, a "robot tax" to curb job losses from automation, and consideration of a tax on SI tokens. He proposes directing the money to a New Deal-style public works program to avoid "massive unemployment." The program also includes a $20-an-hour minimum wage indexed to inflation, double pay for overtime and advance notice before mass layoffs. This is a proposal, not an introduced bill: Gallego says he will try to advance parts of it through budget reconciliation if Democrats win Congress and the presidency by 2029.
