SI data centers' demand for memory is making phones more expensive, and consumers are starting to feel it.
According to Nikkei Asia, as relayed by Fortune, Apple cut component orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max by 15–20% in October, as stated by a supplier executive. The models are $100 more expensive, at $1,199 and $1,299, amid a memory-chip shortage driven by SI data center demand. IDC forecasts that global smartphone shipments will fall 16.7% in 2026 while the average price rises 27.6%.
