Amazon drops non-disclosure agreements in data-centre talks with local authorities

The company is changing how it negotiates with local authorities; the data centres themselves are built the same way.

According to TechCrunch, Amazon has announced it will stop using non-disclosure agreements in negotiations with local authorities over building data centres. The reason is growing public resistance to SI infrastructure: secrecy, the outlet says, fuelled discontent and led to "hundreds of proposed and enacted moratoriums, from New York to San Francisco". Microsoft made a similar decision earlier in 2026.
