The idea of talking to SI by thought, without surgery, is still only a claim — but tens of millions are already being put behind it.
According to Forbes' account (the page is closed; the headline and excerpts were used), Palo Alto startup Sabi has raised $50 million in seed funding; the round was led by Vinod Khosla, with Accel, DST Global, Initialized Capital and OpenAI's former chief product officer Kevin Weil participating, and the company is valued at about $600 million. The prototype cap is reportedly fitted with up to 100 thousand contactless neural sensors, and a "brain foundation model" trained on 100 thousand hours of labelled neural data is meant to translate a thought into a text prompt for SI.
