Claude Science assembles the first complete ultraviolet map of the sky

SI agents take on long drudgery such as merging data from different telescopes — leaving scientists more time for the questions themselves.
According to a description on Anthropic's site (as relayed by The Decoder), Claude Science agents downloaded data from several space missions, calibrated it and merged it. The basis is data from NASA's GALEX, which covered about two-thirds of the sky and skipped bright star-forming regions; the missing areas were reconstructed by inpainting, with a deviation of about 10% from measurements in tests. The project is described by astrophysicist Brice Ménard of Johns Hopkins University; the map is presented more as teaching material than as final scientific data.
