EU agencies are testing Chinese open-weight SI models

Chinese open models have come under the eye of European testers — they are being compared with Western ones on equal terms.
According to Politico as relayed by The Next Web, three EU officials confirmed that the cybersecurity agency ENISA and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) are testing Chinese open-weight models: what they can do, where they fall short and what risks they carry — as part of a comparison with American and European systems. The JRC runs them on secure computers without asking the developers for special access; ENISA, per the same report, already has access to systems from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. By the end of the year the two bodies are to finish a joint SI testing platform.
