The poll shows demand for slowing down and control — pressure that acceleration will have to reckon with.
According to an AP-NORC poll reported by Fortune, 64% of Americans think SI is developing too fast, 27% think the pace is about right and 8% think it is too slow. About 80% called it "extremely" or "very" important that the federal government keep SI under human control; respondents rated protecting workers as equally important. The poll surveyed 2,140 adults on September 24–28, with a margin of error of ±2.9 percentage points. Concern is higher among Democrats (about 75%) than Republicans (about 50%).
