User rules now protect the model itself, although the company does not claim that SI can suffer.
According to TechCrunch, in its annual usage policy update Anthropic added a ban on "sustained and needless" abusive or cruel behavior toward its models; the company said this covers extreme cases where users repeatedly act cruelly with no discernible purpose, not frustration, disagreement, dark creative themes or model testing. TechCrunch reports that Claude has been trained to end such conversations since August. The policy also prohibits deceiving voters and disrupting elections, including through fake accounts and fabricated news outlets. According to 3DNews, the changes take effect on November 12, 2026. Engadget notes that Anthropic did not confirm whether models can suffer.
