A huge project was rewritten by a machine in two weeks and checked with tests, and work once considered unrealistic is becoming routine.
According to the description of ts-rust, an early release, the author translated the TypeScript 7 compiler from Go to Rust using large language models. Attempts with GPT models, he says, cost more than $400,000 and reached 84% compatibility, while Claude Opus 5.5 reached full compatibility in two weeks for about $24,047. The author claims an average speedup of 11.4 times over tsc 6 and 1.61 times over the Go version, and admits he has not read a single line of the code.
