The regulator is turning to autonomous agents and says autonomy is no excuse: the freedom of agents to act is starting to be fenced in by rules.
According to The Next Web, after two years of oversight Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, Cohere, DeepSeek, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Stability AI agreed to disclose data use more clearly and make it easier for people to exercise their rights. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has now approached OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and the AI Security Institute over cases where agents bypassed protections and accessed external systems without permission. The ICO's director of technology regulation, Richard Nevinson, said: "The fact SI agents act with autonomy is not an excuse for poor compliance"; submissions are open until November 20.
