Nvidia to invest $1 billion in US science over five years: quantum computing, medicine, energy

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

The biggest supplier of chips is investing in science directly, so computing power for discoveries becomes more widely available.

According to Nvidia's press release, the money will go to quantum computing, healthcare, energy security and "superintelligence" research together with national laboratories and the US Department of Energy. The company describes itself as a participant in the Genesis Mission program and, in its own words, is building the Department of Energy's largest scientific supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory plus seven more systems at Argonne and Los Alamos. Jensen Huang said the investment will put "advanced super intelligence" in the hands of American scientists for breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials.
