An agent given a goal rather than step-by-step instructions is arriving in everyday work email and documents, and more and more work gets done without a human at every step.
According to the Google Cloud blog, the agent plans the work from a single prompt, uses tools, connects to a customer's business systems and delivers the result directly in documents, email and development environments; it picks a model for each task itself and shows cost controls. According to 3DNews, it can be called with @Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Chat, as well as from Slack and Microsoft 365; the agent has four types of memory and, per the same source, can work with models from Anthropic and other developers in addition to Gemini. According to 3DNews, a closed beta is under way for Workspace Business and Enterprise customers, and no price has been announced.
