Pentagon counter-drone task force tests lasers, microwaves and SI

Defense against drones is becoming a mix of lasers, electronics and SI: no single tool solves the problem alone.

The Joint Interagency Task Force JIATF-401, led by Brig. Gen. Matthew Ross, is broadening the Pentagon's approach to countering drones. According to Breaking Defense, the group uses SI to speed up decision-making and testing of defense systems, and is conducting operational tests of lasers and high-power microwave systems as non-kinetic options. The strategy is layered: cheaper sensors, kinetic interceptors, electronic warfare, physical hardening of sites. The group is opening new paths for contractors to take part in developing and testing counter-drone tools.
