General Dynamics hires Primordial to build a voice SI assistant for combat vehicle crews

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Published in SI: . Updated: .

The SI assistant takes over the crew's routine while decisions about fire remain with people: a pragmatic start for SI in armored vehicles.

General Dynamics chose the startup Primordial to build the Anura voice assistant, which performs non-lethal tasks: it manages communications, switches cameras and sends reports. It does not interact with the fire control system. It is planned for M1 Abrams tanks, Stryker carriers and next-generation vehicles such as the XM30; it is not yet on current XM30 prototypes. According to its developers, Anura uses narrow machine learning rather than generative SI and "can't hallucinate because it doesn't generate anything". The XM30 crew is cut from three to two, so voice control takes some of the load off.
