A cheap open model paired with a checking one can replace an expensive frontier model in routine work, and it is useful already.
Yandex Infrastructure described on Habr NeuroReview, an automated code review system that handles about 4,000 pull requests a day. Two agents work together: a generator (Qwen 3.6 27B) looks for problems, and a validator (MiniMax-M2-7) filters out false positives and duplicates. 30% of comments are accepted, and the share of positive developer ratings rose from 50% to 70% over six months. Half of the accepted comments are business logic errors and 16% are language errors. According to the authors, Claude Opus gave better quality but cost $3.42 per review versus $0.041 for Qwen, so Qwen runs in production; a human has the final say.
