IMF chief Georgieva: SI could add up to 0.5 percentage points of growth a year, but limits are needed so models do not slip out of control

A call for "regulatory constraints" on powerful models: if it is heeded, they will get more locks than capabilities.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva called SI both an opportunity and a challenge: she said that, well managed, the technology could add up to 0.5 percentage points to annual growth, which over a decade equals an economy the size of ASEAN. Among the factors behind rising inflation she named SI development, expensive energy, tariffs and defense spending. To prevent mass layoffs, cyber threats and advanced models becoming uncontrollable, Georgieva called for "regulatory constraints".
