Robots are now taught from recordings of ordinary human chores, and the stream of such data is becoming a business of its own.

Mecka AI, founded in 2024, closed a $60 million Series B led by Sequoia with participation from Nvidia and M12 (Microsoft's venture fund); according to TechCrunch, the valuation is $500 million. The company pays people to record everyday tasks, such as making coffee or fixing a car, wearing body sensors and using smartphones, and sells this data for training robots, including humanoids. TechCrunch notes that Mecka wants to do for robotics what Scale AI, Mercor and Surge did for language models.
