Google launches Playground: browser games can be made from a text description

Anyone who can describe a game in words can now make one: the barrier to entry into development is falling.
Google Labs opened Playground, a platform where the user picks a genre (trivia, racing and so on), 2D or 3D, single or multiplayer, and describes the mechanics and visuals in text; uploaded pictures are turned by SI into game assets. Games run on phone and computer, support leaderboards and edits after release. Access is for now limited to users over 18 in the US; there is a weekly token allowance, higher for Google One SI subscribers; playing is free. Integration with Unity Spark for "professional-level" mechanics and expanded 3D is promised later. TechCrunch compares the launch to Roblox's SI tool released in July 2026.
