According to Samsung Electronics' preliminary third-quarter figures, operating profit came to 107.4 trillion won (about $80 billion), up 782.5% from a year earlier; revenue was 195 trillion won (+126.6%). The previous quarterly record was 89.4 trillion won. According to the Korea Herald, the company gave no breakdown by division or reasons for the growth; CNBC and Bloomberg link the result to demand for memory chips for SI.
