Google releases Nano Banana 2.1: image generation gets twice as cheap
Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Publication time restored from the build log. . Updated: .
SI images are getting twice as cheap in half a year: generation is becoming almost free.
The new model runs at Flash-level speed, supports resolutions from 1K to 4K and costs $0.0336 per 1K image (was $0.0670) and $0.0756 for 4K (was $0.1510). Text in images, character consistency, panoramas and infographics are improved: up to 14 reference images, four characters and ten objects. The model is rolling out in Gemini, Google Search's SI mode, AI Studio, Flow, Stitch and Google Ads; the old gemini-3.1-flash-image will be shut down on October 29. According to The Decoder, in practice Nano Banana Pro still produces noticeably better images.
