Vinci raises $250 million at a $1.5 billion valuation for SI physics simulation in chip design

SI is learning to design hardware for SI: calculations that used to take weeks could shrink to minutes.
The round was led by Advent, Temasek and Xora Innovation, with Eclipse, Khosla Ventures and Madrona participating. The Palo Alto startup, with 70 employees, uses foundation models to predict how a design will behave before it is built: it started with thermal calculations for SI chips, now models entire systems and will add vibration and electromagnetics. According to the company, calculations run up to 1,000 times faster than conventional tools without losing accuracy; its competitors are Cadence and Synopsys.
