Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni registers her voice as a trademark to protect against deepfakes

When a voice can be faked in minutes, politicians are starting to protect it the way companies protect a logo.
Meloni filed an application with the EU Intellectual Property Office, attaching a four-second recording in which she says "Io sono Giorgia" twice — a phrase from a 2019 rally that became a meme and the title of her autobiography. If the application is approved, use of a clone of her voice without consent could be considered an infringement of protected rights.
