SI is taking on designing the hardware that SI itself runs on, and the loop of "the model makes chips, the chips speed up the model" is getting shorter.
The companies signed a multiyear revenue-sharing agreement: OpenAI will receive a license to Synopsys's design automation tools, and the GPT-Synopsys model will work with them like an experienced engineer, optimizing power, speed and die area, closing timing, and running verification. The model will run on OpenAI's infrastructure, customer data is not used for training; early pilots with leading chipmakers are already under way.
